The Half Moon Bay area is home to a host of tasting rooms for both wine and spirits. In fact, even we were surprised when we actually counted up the number! Even in COVID times, these tasting rooms have a great schedule of live events held in a safe, socially distanced and responsible manner. Link to this page and check back often, we will keep a list of updated events at the top of the page.
UPCOMING EVENTS

This listing is for wine room and distillery events only. For a full list of upcoming events, please see our Local Events page.

Wine Rooms

Who knew we had 7 wine rooms in the area? From Moss Beach to Pescadero, we have 7 wine tasting rooms each with their own distinct personality! Here is a little bit about each so you can plan your trip.

Barterra Winery
Barterra is temporarily closed as it renovates its new location at 315 Main St. We will update the listing when it opens.

Barterra specializes in coastal California wines from top vineyards located from Santa Barbara to Mendocino. They feature Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sparkling from Carneros, Sangiovese from Silverado, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Primitivo from Lodi, Viognier from Paso Robles, Sauvignon Blanc from Russian River, Cabernet Sauvginon from Alexander Valley, Reisling and French Colombard from Mendocino, and special dessert wines from Madera.  They are constantly on the lookout for new wines so don't forget to ask what's new! The new space will have both indoor and outdoor tasting areas - can't wait!

The Coastal Vine
2305 Carlos St., Moss Beach, CA 94038

The newest wine room in the area, the Coastal Vine is just north of Half Moon Bay (for locals, its where The Wine Room was). This place is pretty much as far as you can get from the traditional staid and quiet tasting room experience! The owners philosophy is four-fold: offer a variety of wines from small producers, keep things fresh by changing up the wine inventory regularly, build community and have fun.  Even their planned wine club will be community-based (I won't give anything away but sounds fun and worth asking them about). They have live entertainment on weekends (for now out outdoors) and host wine tasting events. This isn't a tasting room that serves tasting flights. They carry a wide variety of wines and allow you to taste any wine before you commit to a full glass, ensuring you'll enjoy your wine experience.

Half Moon Bay Wine and Cheese
421 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

From the newest wine room to the most well established, The Half Moon Bay Wine & Cheese Company, is located in downtown Half Moon Bay and has been serving customers since 1998. It is truly gourmet oasis for visitors and locals alike. The Half Moon Bay Wine and Cheese Company features a collection of over 800 boutique, family-owned and rare wines as well as a number of the world's finest artisanal and farmstead cheeses.  Wine aficionados are invited to the tasting bar, which is open daily, to savor from 50 different wines by the glass. You will also find unique gifts, tools, and accessories to enhance your wine experience at home. Over 800 wines are available online through the Half Moon Bay Wine and Cheese Company's webshop.

La Nebbia Winery
12341 San Mateo Rd, Half Moon Bay, CA

La Nebbia features their own wines sourced from a variety of vineyards across California. They are continually combing the wine regions from north to south and east to west to bring you high quality wines that express the diverse and rich California wine experience. It is in a beautiful spot surrounded by farms and in the shadow of the Santa Cruz Mountains, on Highway 92 about 2 miles before you get to Main St. Half Moon Bay. At La Nebbia it is almost as much about the experience as it is about the wine. They have beautiful gardens, picnic grounds and a fabulous bocce court out back, so you can taste while playing or just admiring the scenery. It is not uncommon to find someone playing live music in the picnic area. You can bring your own picnic basket or pick from a variety of cheeses and crackers in the wine shop.

Sante Arcangeli Family Wines
Downtown Pescadero location is closed, moving to Harley Farms,  79 North St, Pescadero, CA , opening this winter

Some of the best recent news about local tasting rooms is that Sante Arcangelli is co-locating with Harley Farms! Some great locally produced wines paired with the best goat cheese you'll ever taste promises to be an incredible experience. Add the old barn they are converting surrounded by beautiful farmland and it sound like a perfect day on the coast. As for the wine, they produce mostly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from grapes grown in the
Corralitos region of the Santa Cruz Mountains where most of their vineyards are. They have 6 vineyards in total and they also source grapes from coastal mountain vineyards in cool areas "with an eye on creating nuanced, approachable and ethereal wines."

Trojak'knier Winery
151-A Harvard Ave., Half Moon Bay, CA 9401: Tasting room temporarily closed due to COVID

Trojak~Knier Winery makes small-batch hand-crafted wine, only producing 350 cases a year. They make Zinfandel, Cabernet, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, sourced from the best grapes they can find from Gilroy to Napa. Their approach is "truly hand crafted and non-interventionist." They describe themselves as "caretakers of the fruit and they seek to let the flavors of the vineyard express themselves in the wine. This is a familiar Silicon Valley success story, but with wine! A winery started by two men in a garage in 1993 to an award winning wine producer!

Vinoteca
330 Main St., Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

Vinoteca serves a great variety of wines in a casual atmosphere. They carry curated wines from around the world, mostly from small family-owned wineries. The owners clearly love wine and love to help their customers pick a great bottle or perfect flight that matches their tastes. And you can get a glass or half glass of any wine they sell! Vinoteca has a great space with a super comfy couch and an amazing table for games and puzzles. They also offer a few beers from local Half Moon Bay breweries if you're significant other isn’t into wine. Vinoteca is currently serving wine in the beautiful (and historic) Zaballa Square courtyard, right outside their front door.

Distillery Tasting Rooms

The Half Moon Bay area is also lucky enough to host the Half Moon Bay Distillery, which has grown quite a following over the years, and is poised to welcome another when Jettywave opens in late November 2020.

Half Moon Bay Distillery
103 Harvard Avenue, #4, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

Half Moon Bay Distillery is a small craft distillery located in Princeton near the harbor. They locally produce ultra-premium hand-crafted spirits to people "who care about where their drinks come from and who made them." They are committed to producing the highest quality, hand-crafted distilled spirits in small batches. Their core belief is, in their words, "that the fully automated processes of large liquor conglomerates can never duplicate the heart and soul that goes into spirits which have been produced with the human touch of a master distiller who knows his or her craft." If you've tried their spirits you know that's true! They offer private tastings, cocktails and bottles for pickup.
