Top Five - Half Moon Bay Beaches

1. Francis Beach- Francis Beach is located at the end of Kelly St. ..just south of Hwy. 92. If you park on the street, drop off passengers at the end of Kelly St., then find parking on the street. 2. Poplar Beach - About 1/2 mile south of Hwy 92, turn on Poplar Rd. This is a beautiful, popular beach. There is paid parking at the end of the street. Steep ramp to walk down to the beach. 3. Venice Beach - located about 1/2 north of Hwy 92 off of Venice Rd. Paid parking $10. This beach is on sea level and you can walk right onto the beach. No cliffs to climb. Good family beach that is pet friendly. No restroom access. more info...

4. Surfer's Beach is 2.5 north of Hwy 92. Located on Hwy 1 near Pillar Point, it has easy 1 to 2 ft' waves. Popular with surfers on weekends. Quiet on weekdays. Parking free - roadside. No restrooms. Good spot to watch surf or watch from beach...more info...

5. Roosevelt Beach and Dunes Beach is located off Young Ave. about 1.5 mile north of Hwy 92. Easy beach access, no cliff. Paid parking. Good family beach that is pet friendly. No restroom access. more info...

Maverick's Surf spot can be seen from all beaches. Look for the "giant golf ball" near harbor peninsula. The surrounding property is government owned. The easiest way to view the area is to look for the huge radar that looks like a "large golf ball on a tee." That is Maverick's surf area below. Do not attempt to access this beach as it is dangerous and difficult. The professionals access it through jet ski's.

Maverick's location can be seen in this image. The surf location is not accessible from shore. Only professional surfers dare attempt the surf spot. Waves can get up to 40 ft. high.
